Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

I'm doing some experiments. What is an economical way to get a set of "real" (i.e. made for music) steel strings, at least 28" long and preferably with ball ends, of many gauges, both plain and wound?

By "steel", I meant metal that influences magnetic field pickups.

Check your local music store for what sets they have.  You can also ask the guitar tech if he can save the ones when does string changes.  Tell him it's for experiments.  I buy only the gauges I need a dozen at a time (I mostly make 3 & 4 stringers)
