Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

Hi there from Australia. I built myself a 6 string lap-steel guitar a few years ago. I have wrapped the strings back and through the Gotoh chrome bridge. I have no way to intonate the individual strings. Maybe I should get a Les Paul type bridge with adjustments. The bridge I have is also curved - therefore the bass string is so low I find it difficult to slide on it. It just buzzes. Any ideas?? I also am looking for the CORRECT strings to use. I see where some people suggest Dobro (heavy) strings. My guitar is solid wood with a thick neck. It may be able to take the strain??
