I use 3/16" brass rod that I get at Sears, Ace Hardware and Home Depot.
Permalink Reply by Hal Somervill on April 9, 2013 at 11:03am I sometimes use a door hinge pin. They are usually 5/16" and sometimes 1/4". I also like to use threaded rod (or bolt threads) for the bridge, mainly because the strings will stay where you need them to be. Threaded rod bridges are also "floating" so you can get your intonation just right by moving them closer or further from the nut. If you need more "action" height, use a larger diameter threaded rod. For less, use a smaller diameter rod.
Thanks for the information, guys. Since I started this thread about two years ago, I've been happy with placing a rod piezo
over a 2.5" sink drain. The rod piezo produces a good sound. But I'm gonna get some of those little brass rods. Thanks again!

Permalink Reply by MX1 (Tim M.) on April 21, 2013 at 7:36pm a little trick, you can place the rod in a piece of old wood ruler, the kind with the grove down the center...looks nice and works well
