Started by removing all that hard shiny finish stuff. not easy but managed to get it all off.

Actually got a promising looking neck under all that. looks like a maple-ish stripe with some cheap mahogany varient.

Im impressed with the guitar. its a KAY-320, made in the GDR, so it would be made 1949 - 1990. nice hardwood fretboard - was expecting ply. a solid built guitar.

means it'll be a bugger getting the back off though.

finished rubbing down the neck and a 1st coat of oil. what a difference from that horrible  hard black finish.

not too keen on the stripe on the front of the headstock so gonna put on some veneer.

1st made a cardboard template, then used this to cut out the shape on some oak veneer.

now i can cut out a section to add a wenge veneer contrast.

think i'll do the fretboard next so the neck is done. then onto the body

Lookin good from here aye

had another look at the tuners and they seem in usable shape, minus a missing button, so gonna use em.

after a cola bath, they look cleaner but still a nice tarnish to em.

now for some new buttons. drilled out some wood, then shaped and polished - el cheapo buttons for zilch cash

well the neck is finished (and looks a hell of a lot better now). after taking stock of the body, the back is screwed.

filled in the gouges and nicks, then prepped for a paint job. as im not artistic it'll be something simple.

wow, looking really nice- - I like this ****

pimpin it yer scot bastid *****

that was a real nice neck under all that paint huh

thanks guys. damn right im pimpin' it - seeing as theres not one original idea going into it!

got the paint job on the back finished so now for a pick up. got this humbucker to fit into the soundhole

decided to block off the soundhole and added a new one to the upper left

the bridge area needs some work as its slightly bellied out - got my thinking cap on for this...

Well, I think your thinking cap must have lots of feathers in it. Nice work!
