Trimmed the pail?   GASHP!

Totally valid. That's how it's done.  At least you found the right pail to start with!  :D

Also in all honesty, I did trim the galvanized pail a bit with the tin snips. It wasn't much but I did do that.

Hey I have a trick to get a scarf joint perfect, even if you are hand cutting them. When you sand the cut DO NOT go back and forth with the grain. You will ALWAYS sand more at the ends than you do in the middle and you will have gaps and see the joint. Sand in a circle. You don't over sand and you can get the joint perfect. That's what I did.

A great start on a build.  What a unique concept-- and that pail just FITS doesn't it?

Good job on the headstock; I can't see where the tennis racket ends and the headstock begins. Terrific!
