The 3 way switch isn't necessary, you can certainly blend and/or silence the individual pickups. The switch allows you to completely remove one or the other from the circuit. With the mismatched impedences of the piezo and the mag pup, combining them may cut down on the total output. Depending on the pups used, with the switch set to one or the other you may get clear, strong signals where with the switch in the middle you may get a muddier and less strong signal. Without the switch in the circuit it's as if you are always playing with the switch in the combined position. The difference can be subtle, or not, depending on the components.

Ted - great diagram as always (thanks!), but I have a question please - I want to do this setup on a build I've got going, but do I need to have the 3 way switch in the wiring mix? Could you do the same thing by wiring all the + & - to the same solder point (output jack)? And then just use the individual volume controls to blend and/or silence individual outputs? Thanks in advance!

Almost the opposite Jaakko, some folks like V2 (for the piezo) to be 1M. I like using 500 for all and .047 cap. Single coil and humbucker.

That's nice Ted. One question for you. Is it better that V1, V2 & T are 500k, or is it better that V1 & T = 500K and V2 = 250K
