Add a bass string to your standard build

Started this discussion. Last reply by Diane in Chicago Jun 12, 2011. 16 Replies

I want to do something weird. I've seen a lot of guys do it. Put a nice fat bass string on the top of a four or three stringer. Suggestions? Probably a slightly longer scale? Use a bass tuner for…Continue

Where do you get your wood?

Started this discussion. Last reply by The Phrygian Kid Jun 28, 2011. 6 Replies

I'm trying to source wood at decent prices. I really only have a Woodcraft around. Not sure what else I can find. I hate to order things off the net, because I don't get a good look. And nothing is…Continue

Building a Stroviols - What is the resonator attached to?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jason May May 23, 2011. 8 Replies

I was looking at Stroviols because I think they are very cool. Everyone I've seen has some sort of disk that the horn goes into. What do people use for that diaphram shape? Obviously you can use any…Continue

Pulled Up Bridge on Twelve String Luthier Question

Started this discussion. Last reply by Skeesix Jan 9, 2011. 13 Replies

Sorry for the luthier question, but I don't really have anyone else to turn to. My favorite twelve string guitar has been hanging on my wall for almost six years because the bridge pulled up a bit.…Continue

What instruments are you building or playing?
I'll be working on a one string bass soon. Personal project. One of my guitars was recently given to Roy Rogers at one of his shows as a gift. Very exciting. Hope to finish up a few more projects and single coil pickups soon.

howdy jason--apologise fer how long it took me ta get back to ya about yer comment on the oEs licence plate build. i made a frame of old walnut and that is what looks like the masonite-------- haaaaaaaaaa it just occured to me why ya asked about the masonite. thanks fer the comment--i used a piece of 1/4 basswood fer the back it was exactly 3x24 when i got it and one cut down the center made it 6x12 exactly the size fer the frame back. the license plate is aluminum and decided to see if i could put a can in it and it gave it a lil more tone it seems. the screws is something i do often and once ya get all them screws in place it makes everything nice and sturdy yep--thanks again jason.

Hey Jason, I caught a Dan Stevens gig at the Elk Creek Cafe in Mllheim ,Pa about two weeks back. (micro brew cafe three miles from my place) I believe he was using your green telephone mike and CBG with the rubber banded on pickup. "Studio" Stu with his amazing bass was with him and a fantastic blues harp player whose name I've forgotten. The whole show was great. Your guitar sounds and looks incredible.
