The first post

Hi all from the Waikato NZ.

Having become interested in CBG's as soon as I watched a clip and heard that sound (became hooked). Since has been a journey of discovery, who's i'm not quite sure (possably the wifes).

With limited resorces and physical abilities (nothing wrong with the mental ones, got the paper to prove it.. lol), a new hobby is begun.

This in it's self has led to a growing list of tooling I troll the classifeds to find. And if only tools were not…

2 guitars for the Gallery

Today I dropped off 2 hand painted guitars at the Sundust Gallery in downtown Mesa Az. Ron (the owner) is  very proactive  in that he never just waits for business to find him. He hosts classes, seminars and live acoustic music. I hope they sell!

Heading back to The city with the blues

Well it's final, we tried Phoenix for a year and we (my wife) decided that we are moving back to Chicago. There's a little boy named Dylan Christopher back there that was born on 10-10-10 who has a lot to do with it, I guess his cbg building gramps will just have to spoil him and build him some wicked guitars.

'A Fistfull of Carrots' - A Vegaphonic Soundtrack

This musical composition was recorded using instruments made completely of vegetables (and 3 rubberbands). It was inspired by the soundtracks from such films as 'Once Upon A Time In The West', 'A Fistfull of Dollars', and 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly' composed by… Continue

Arnold's 1-String Wonder

Built my first Diddley Bo on Friday.  It has become my NEW favorite musical instrument!  Gonna start building more of them, I think.  Great way t oget rid of any odd guitar strings you have laying around. :)

Drillbit slipped, so the tuner is slightly to one side.  But it still works just…

Latest cache of boxes

Went to my local discount cigarette outlet to look at buying "a couple" cigar boxes to build with.  When I discovered they were only $1 a piece and it was "buy 3 get 2 free"...Let's just say that plan went out the window. LOL!  Here's what I got:

These three are actually METAL!  I've never…

The Next Generation

Just had the opportunity to demonstrate instrument building while inciting over 100 10-year olds to greater musical heights.

What started as an invitation to show off a CBG to a class learning about homemade instruments, became a full-blown presentation to the entire 4th grade in multiple assemblies by the time I got there.

Gourd percussion instruments, CBGs, Kalimbas, and more burrowed their way into the imaginations of some really cool kids. We even built a…

Double Neck Guitar

I will give this a shot and see where it goes. The concept is to use a La Flor Dominicana cigar box, where the bottom neck will be a 3 string electric guitar. I'm leaning towards making one of those "blues chimer" I've been reading about. The upper neck will be a lap style dulcimer (also 3 strings). …
