Lap Steel Build

always wanted to try a lap steel guitar and finally got a nice piece of 3 1/3 by 2 1/2 iroko.

so, here goes

decided on an 8 string setup. first to route out the basic shape

always take extra care when using a router - too many 3 fingered carpenters around already :)

Our friend Robin Rogers - Needs your prayers.

This news was in my email this morning. Robin is always very nice to me and always willing to sign guitars or pose for pictures. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with her in Memphis this past May for the Blues Music Awards. She is very talented and kind hearted. Please keep her in your prayers.

This sad news comes from Steve Hecht at Piedmont Talent. Robin Rogers who has been in the hospital over the last 2 weeks with a severe liver…

Veneer Build

So, iv'e got some 5mm plywood and a length of oak - time to go to work!

Most cigarboxes are just cheap ply boxes covered in paper, so i knocked up a straight forward 9x10 box and cut some sound holes.

Then i start thinking how plain it looks. not really wanting to slap labels on it (nothing wrong with that),

i thought... how about some veneer!

long bridge

This is how i been making my last three or four bridges..
its a bit different from Tinys and Teds and Randys kinda ones, maybe useful for u if u got a bit of a neck angle and some height in there.. Ur all very welcome to use, improve etc on my ideas

my recent experiments indicate that a taller bridge gives me more volume, and spreading the feet further apart seems to as well..…
