At the suggestion of ted, here's an amateur guide to swirl painting a guitar. this will be my 1st double neck build

When i painted the swirl reso, i 'dipped' the whole box - this time thought i try a different approach.

this is the swirl reso which i sanded to 600 grit then used red yellow and blue auto spray paint to build up the purple base coat.

Lap Steel Build

always wanted to try a lap steel guitar and finally got a nice piece of 3 1/3 by 2 1/2 iroko.

so, here goes



decided on an 8 string setup. first to route out the basic shape

always take extra care when using a router - too many 3 fingered carpenters around already :)

Veneer Build

So, iv'e got some 5mm plywood and a length of oak - time to go to work!



Most cigarboxes are just cheap ply boxes covered in paper, so i knocked up a straight forward 9x10 box and cut some sound holes.



Then i start thinking how plain it looks. not really wanting to slap labels on it (nothing wrong with that),

i thought... how about some veneer!
