Cigar Box Guitar Headquarters - CBG HQ

This is an interesting licence plate i've had for a while and finally managed to make something with it.

Started off with some 2x2 bubinga and english yew which i cut into strips for making the box. Also have some sonokeling cut for a fretboard.

The yew had some nice grain patterns which i tried to match up, then scrape clean and join for the back. Added a little strip of zebrawood for a contrast.

Made the box to accommodate the plate, with some posts for fixing it down using the original hole in the plate. The neck is american ash which bolts on through the strip of hardwood and shimmed to add some angle.

Added some veneer to the headstock then trimmed and fretted the fingerboard and knocked up some vol and tone knobs.

The tail piece is aluminium capped off with yew so it strings from the top without the ball ends showing too much.

Shaped a bone blank for the nut and tried adding some nails to extend the mag pickup.

25.5 inch scale tuned a-d-f# using the fattest 3 strings from a regular set.

Very nice I thought it was a prog rock intro to 'deeper and down' by status quo..I think a lot of their stuff would work on Cigar box....also a fellow south paw!!
